Walter Dorwin Teague: Kamera Gift Cam, 1930/31

In the 1920s, Walter Dorwin Teague was one of the very first industrial designers in the USA. At that time, photography was still expensive and complicated. But, with the invention of roll film and the launch of affordable mini cameras, practically everyone was able to take snapshots during trips or at family parties – almost as easily as with today’s smartphones.

In 1930, the Kodak company wanted to bring a particularly trendy camera onto the market as a sales hit for Christmas. The Gift Camera fits into a handbag and was conceived as an ideal present for women. There was no need for extra packaging because the camera came in this decorative box.

Eine kindliche Zeichnung: Eine Frau mit einer antiken Kamera in der Hand sagt: "Bitte recht freundlich!", daneben ein Junge, der sagt: "Ein schmuckes Stück für mein Schmuckstück!".
