Works of art made of bone and ivory
The collection of bone and ivory objects spans the period from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
A particular focus here is on richly decorated caskets, tokens, diptychs and book cover decorations, which document the outstanding achievements of medieval carving in the ecclesiastical and secular spheres. In addition, there are 17th century woodturnings, including a top item in the form of a chandelier made from ox bone. This masterpiece was created in Berchtesgaden around 1600 as a pure work of art to demonstrate perfect mastery of the art of woodturning.
