Sitting royally
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe: Barcelona Chair, 1929
This chair is actually a throne. The architect Mies van der Rohe designed it for the Spanish king and queen.
During the inauguration of the German pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, at the World Fair in Barcelona, one wanted to avoid that the Spanish king and queen should have to stand during the ceremony. That’s why the architect also designed appropriate chairs for their royal highnesses.
