Selected 1

Aspects of the MAKK’s Historical Collections

15 December 2022 to 12 March 2023

"Selected 1" is the first in a series of exhibitions which focus on  the MAKK's historical collections and are presented in an explicitly provisional format. They cover all genres of fine and applied art, focusing on the period from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century.

This significant and also largest body of collections will be closed for a longer period of time due to renovation work on the museum building. Therefore, until the reopening, the MAKK will be regularly providing visitors with insights into the diversity and many facets of these collections while highlighting particular thematic aspects.

The exhibition series is a joint project by the museum team that is involved in the redesign of the historical collections. Its members are currently intensively researching and re-evaluating the collections. With "Selected", a series of cabinet exhibitions, the team would like to share with the visitors of the MAKK the questions, inspirations, ideas, insights or even new discoveries that arise during the redesign.

The topics of the series develop from the work with the historical collections. For the kick-off exhibition, a very personal approach was chosen where each of the seven team members selected five objects to illustrate aspects of the collections which they currently consider particularly fascinating.
