Art and Museum Library

The Art and Museum Library is open. Use is only possible by prior appointment by telephone! Further information

Due to the window renovation, the reading room in the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne will be closed from Thursday 14.10.2021 until further notice.

As a documentation centre for the arts, the Art and Museum Library of the City of Cologne offers a wealth of diverse media on art, ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. The library houses all print media such as monographs, catalogues etc., as well as invitation cards, newsclips and posters.

The library is one of the largest public art and museum libraries for modern art and international photography. It is open to everyone and its use is free. The collections can be accessed in the two reading rooms, each with a different focus: the visual art collections are located in the reading room of Museum Ludwig; collections on applied art and product design, as well as the photography and film collections are located in the Museum of Applied Arts.

Since the Art and Museum Library is a reference library, items cannot be borrowed but a copying and scanning machine is available in the reading rooms. We recommend pre-ordering required items, since, due to a lack of space, large parts of the collections are stored externally. Pre-orders can be made directly via the online catalogue, via Email or telephone.
