In his 1949 introduction to the exhibition Zürcher Konkrete Kunst Max Bill stated that the aim of this school of thought was to create "objects for intellectual use". This description is also an excellent definition of the significant fine arts collection of the Prof. Dr. Richard G. Winkler Foundation. Its focus is primarily on concrete and constructivist art, but the collection also includes op art and systemic art through to computer art. In honour of this important benefactor, who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year, the MAKK will be dedicating an exhibition to him focusing on rarely shown works from his collection. Concrete artists such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse and Verena Loewensberg will be at the centre of the show. Pioneers of constructivism from the Russian avant-garde such as the Georgi and Vladimir Stenberg brothers, Bauhaus students such as Karl Hermann Haupt, light artists such as Adolf Luther and representatives of systemic art such as Zdeněk Sýkora will round off the exhibition.
